Eye Patch Alternative

Is There a Better Alternative to Eye Patches?

At August Afternoon, we believe eye patches are a great tool to target specific concerns in your under-eye area. They can help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as reduce puffiness and dark circles.

We love eye patches but do not always love the maintenance of them. I am a busy mom of a toddler and currently 8 months pregnant. My mornings are not really relaxing and my evenings are spent trying to get things ready in an attempt to make my mornings easier. Between walking my two dogs and trying to wrangle my toddler, I do not have time to worry about the eye patches sliding down my face or falling to the floor. That is where one of my favorite ways to use It’s Everything Multipurpose Balm comes into place.

After washing my face and applying my skincare in the morning I smooth a light layer of the balm under my eyes to lock in my skincare but to also gain the benefits of the balm.

The balm contains cherry and peach kernel oils. Cherry kernel oil is great at helping soothe irritated skin and minimizing the signs of aging. It does this by supporting collagen production and lowering inflammation. Carotenoids are dermal antioxidants that support collagen and elastin production. When your skin has a greater production of elastin and collagen your skin becomes firmer and the skin’s density increases which is great for anti-aging. Peach kernel oil helps to maintain the skin’s firmness and protects against free radical damage. It contains vitamin E which helps soothe puffiness, and is rich in vitamin A to help limit signs of aging by promoting cell turnover.

I leave the balm on for about 15-20 minutes as I am getting things ready for the day. Then I take a damp cloth and gently wipe the balm from under my eyes. I like to leave a little residue behind as I find that it creates a nice base for my makeup. It keeps my under eyes hydrated and prevents my concealer from looking cakey under my eyes.

Bonus Tip: An extra way to boost the soothing effect of this balm is to pop it in the refrigerator overnight so that it has a nice cooling sensation in the morning to reduce puffiness.
